Shadows of the Straits

This opening title sequence was conceptualized and produced as part of a motion design project with

Monash University, exploring the storytelling potential

of cinematic animation in Blender. The sequence sets

the tone for a noir-inspired narrative grounded in the gritty atmosphere of 1960s Singapore, focusing on

the unrest and volatility of Little India during an era

marked by riots, corruption, and street crime.

The visual language draws heavily from classic film noir tropes, fused with local textures and cultural references from 1960s Singapore. We aimed to create a sense of place that felt historically grounded but visually stylized

— balancing realism with surreal undertones to reflect

the instability of the time.
